The course offers advanced education in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), with special reference to signal processing (voice, video, data and multimedia), telecommunications systems, networks and networking applications. The program focuses on providing methodological and advanced design skills to become high-level professionals in all areas of Telecommunications Engineering.
Learning by doing
The course offers lectures (in English), laboratories, guided visits to companies and seminars. The final thesis project gives students the possibility of developing further competence in the framework of high-level research labs.

The Master Program in Internet and Multimedia Engineering provides advanced education on signal, image, and video processing, networking and telematics, mobile and fixed communications systems and applied electromagnetics.
We build high-level ICT professionals in Internet, Multimedia, and Telecommunications Engineering, with vision and knowledge on current technology evolution, ready to face the challenges of Internet-of-Things, Big Data, Smart Systems, Machine Learning and 5th Generation Mobile Networks (5G) era.
Our program has a strong characterization toward Internet engineering on one side, and toward signal processing and multimedia systems, either networked or stand-alone, on the other. Students learn how to address the design, management, and operation of distributed communication and processing architectures and multimedia applications, in mobility and over heterogeneous networks, with different levels of smartness and interactivity.

I always wanted to work in a big Telco company and now, mainly thanks to my experience at the University of Genoa, I work as a Technical Engineer in Huawei Technologies in the field of Cloud and Data Center Solutions. Before jumping aboard, they asked me three things I received from the Internet and Multimedia Engineering Master: proficiency in the English language, strong technical IT and TLC theoretical and practical basis and a relevant experience abroad. This master gave me all of them, especially thanks to the great professors' expertise, a brilliant teamwork with an original multicultural mix of colleagues and the chance to live an outstanding experience in Dublin City University, Ireland, working on innovative technologies (Software Defined Routers and Power Saving Algorithms in network devices). Looking back, I still have to thank who gave me the chance to try, fail, and learn. Listen and put trust in the teaching board, you will understand the usefulness of subjects later.
My journey from the Philippines to Italy started when I got a scholarship from the IME (formerly Multimedia Signal Processing and Telecommunication Networks - MSPTN) Master Program Committee of the University of Genoa. I will always be grateful for this opportunity as it has opened many doors to me - learning, growing, new perspectives, friendship - and more! I was also given the chance to work out my thesis at the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, developing a simulation framework for the live migration of online games towards the edge. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD in Science and Technologies for Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering, through which I get to interact with experts and fellow researchers in this field. In line with the objectives of the INPUT European Project (http://www.input-project.eu), my work focuses on optimizing the trade-off between energy efficiency and network performance in datacenter networks, valuable for both cloud and fog computing.
M.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering and the Ph.D. in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering opened the doors of one of the most prestigious corporate research lab in Europe: the Xerox Lab in Grenoble, France. After 10 years of research in Machine Learning and Computer Vision brought forward with worldwide experts in the field of image classification, I started a new business adventure related to my research interests: Beautifeye.
Beautifeye is a startup I founded in Dublin at the end of 2013. Beautifeye's mission is to automate market research through image analysis techniques combined with data gathered from social networks such as Instagram and Twitter. Today, even if I devote the largest amount of my time to applied research and product development, still I am interested in research and I constantly follow new trends in image analysis and machine learning.
I am from the Philippines and I am very thankful that I have been given a chance to pursue my master's degree in MSPTN (now IME) here at the University of Genoa, Italy. I have received a scholarship from the committee, which partially covered my living expenses. After the 2-year course, I was also given a chance to do my thesis at the University of Würzburg, Germany, modelling the network traffic of an online game. Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Digital Humanities focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT). I am currently involved in the INPUT European Project (http://www.input-project.eu).
